El homenaje al hip hop y a Tina Turner en los Premios BET

Este domingo se celebraron en Estados Unidos los Premios BET, que fueron creados en 2001 por la cadena Black Entertainment Television para reconocer a las personas afroamericanas y de otras minorías étnicas que se destacan en la música, el deporte y el entretenimiento.

Así, a lo largo de una nueva ceremonia en la que se rindió un homenaje extenso a artistas como Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Biz Markie y Pop Smoke, destacando una muestra de sus éxitos más conocidos, se hizo alusión a lo mejor del hip hop de antes y el camino que abrió a las nuevas generaciones. 

Por su parte, también se homenajeó a Tina Turner con una interpretación del éxito de la difunta cantante “The Best” por Patti LaBelle, en la que la emoción de todo el público fue la protagonista. 

Además, Busta Rhymes se llevó el premio a la mejor trayectoria. Cabe resaltar que el rapero, productor y figura pionera del hip hop nominado 12 veces al Grammy es ampliamente considerado como uno de los grandes MC. 

Por su parte, Diddy, Janet Jackson, Chuck D, Missy Elliot, Pharrell Williams y Mariah Carey grabaron un video en homenaje a Rhymes. A lo que el artista respondió con un conmovedor discurso en el que habló sobre sus seis hijos, sobre cómo lo echaron de Leaders of the New School y cómo aprendió a reconstruirse desde ahí. 

Por su parte, Will Smith, quien generó controversia en los Premios Oscar del 2022 al pegarle una cachetada a Chris Rock, ganó el premio BET a mejor actor el domingo. Entre otros ganadores resaltan The Weeknd como Mejor artista masculino de R&B, Kendrick Lamar como Mejor artista masculino de Hip hop y Zendaya como mejor actriz.
