Si bien MTV hace años perdió su fuerza como canal musical, cada año sigue realizando una premiación que rescata lo más destacado del año de esta industria, sobretodo, teniendo en cuenta lo que sucede en el mercado mainstream. Este año, la premiación se realizará el próximo domingo 28 de agosto en el Prudential Center de New Jersey, Estados Unidos. 

Los artistas con mayores nominaciones en este 2022 son los raperos Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow y Lil Nas X con 7 nominaciones cada uno, seguidos de Doja Cat y Harry Styles, quienes tienen seis nominaciones cada uno, luego, está Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift y The Weekend que cuentan con cinco nominaciones cada uno. 

El hip hop, R&B y pop son protagonistas de esta edición, en la que Madonna, la reina del pop, se convirtió en la única artista en ser nominada durante cada una de las cinco décadas de existencia de los Video Music Awards, ya que recibió su nominación número 69 gracias al videoclip de la canción “Madame X”.

En cuanto a los artistas latinos, el reggaeton es protagonista, con Rosalía y Bad Bunny nominados a Mejor colaboración y Artista del año, respectivamente.
