Hacer esta lista me hizo escuchar todo de nuevo", esto dijo Elvis Costello luego de reunir, por petición de Vanity Fair, una colección de 500 álbumes, incluyendo recomendaciones de temas específicos. Costello, quien comenzó su carrera musical como parte de la escena del pub rock de Londres a principios de la década de 1970 y que más tarde se mezcló con la primera ola del punk británico y del movimiento new wave, explicó que la lista incluye artistas que lo han influenciado no solo a nivel profesional sino también personal. De igual manera, reconoció que hay enormes lagunas y puntos ciegos. El punto es que quizás encuentre discos para complementar su biblioteca musical.
